little changed and possibly slightly down this month. World markets are in clear flux for pricing
and since literally what happens in China effects prices right here in Raleigh,
North Carolina, we at Goldsboro Metal Recycling, do our best to deal with these
changing dynamics. As we write this,
ferrous prices have not stabilized for the month. The good news is two weeks ago, there was word
that markets were down across the board for August, but that may be only
for select products. Here is why. There is no question the U.S. is doing better,
but of course too slowly. Auto sales are
up, home sales and home prices are up, jobs are being created, but with all
that, as for steel, the U.S. only produces about 6% of the world’s steel and
China produces about 47%. Significant
amounts of scrap metal from the U.S. goes to China. China was growing at 11-12+ in recent years
and now is growing at about 7%. When
they slow growth in the use of scrap metal, prices do not go up. Related Europe is in a true recession, as
we were years ago.

product and used in many industries. As
with Steel though, China uses about half of the world’s copper. The copper they use is not only used in all
the construction in China, but it is used in the iPads, TV’s, Computers and
Appliances that are made in China and come back to the U.S. as well as are
shipped around the world. Again, with
China slowing and Europe in a recession, prices are down. Copper has an interesting Nick Name “Dr.
